RETRO CHIC
A peek into the wide windows of the Swallow's Nest...offers inspiration galore and a selection of eclectic wares to fluff up any home with flair. ... Unlike many stores in the big city offering reproduction vintage, most of Vail's "retro" pieces are the real thing, although she repairs, restyles and sometimes paints them in keeping with a contemporary style.
Vail packs the store with new accessories, giftware, bathware and cushions—piles of cushions in sumptuous cozy and vintage fabrics she has custom made. Never one to "rest in the nest," Vail's displays are ever changing, as is the selection of delightful wares.

SCOPING FINDS WITH AN EAGLE EYE
Customers flock to The Swallow’s Nest...for its whimsical wares. Owner Ginny Vail shares insights on what keeps her vintage collection fresh.
(I buy) well-priced vintage pieces that have enough character to work in a bunch of different ways, like a garden piece to bring indoors or a bedroom furnishing that might look great in the bathroom, such as a dresser, wooden chest or side table.
(My specialty) is mixing old and new. I’m well known for my 30’s, 40’s and ’50s pieces, but adding a contemporary accent or a sleek 60’s item makes everything look better.
Small pieces that go anywhere are hot—footstools, side tables, tables with drawers, bookcases and cabinets with little glass doors. People love fabrics, especially one-of-a-kind textiles from the 30’s to 50’s. We sell a lot of cushions and throws. They’re glamorous—like jewelry for your room.
